What a Muhurtham actually is
A Muhurtham is an auspicious window, a specific date and time, chosen for a ceremony or major life event so that it begins under favourable astrological conditions. It is built from the same Panchangam factors our Panchangam page already shows: Tithi, Nakshatra and Yoga on the day, with Rahu Kalam and other inauspicious windows avoided for the ceremony itself. Telugu marriage Muhurtham dates
Wedding Muhurtham selection is the most involved of the five: it weighs a favourable Tithi, Nakshatra and Yoga for the date itself, avoids months traditionally treated as inauspicious for weddings (Ashada masam and the period around Shunya masam are the most commonly cited), and checks both partners' Jathakams for Rashi and Nakshatra compatibility, known as Porutham. That last part needs each partner's birth chart, generate both on the Jathakam page first if you're starting this process.
Gruha Pravesham Muhurtham
Gruha Pravesham, the housewarming ceremony for moving into a new or newly purchased home, follows similar logic to a marriage date, a favourable Tithi and Nakshatra, performed outside Rahu Kalam, and traditionally scheduled for the morning. Unlike marriage, it does not need a compatibility check between two charts, only the date and time itself need to be favourable.
Vehicle purchase and business-opening Muhurtham
Both follow the same core rule: a favourable Tithi and Nakshatra, avoiding Rahu Kalam and Amavasya. A business opening additionally favours the Shukla Paksha (waxing fortnight), on the logic that a new venture should begin as things are growing, not waning. Neither carries the month-level restrictions a wedding does.
Namakaranam Muhurtham
Namakaranam, the baby naming ceremony, is usually held on the 11th or 12th day after birth, though families sometimes wait longer for a better date. The ceremony's own Muhurtham is chosen the normal way (favourable Tithi and Nakshatra), separately from the baby's name itself, which comes from the child's own birth Nakshatra Pada, see the Baby Names page for how that works.
How to check a candidate date yourself
Open the Panchangam page, pick a date you're considering, and read its Tithi, Nakshatra and Rahu Kalam window. A strong candidate has a Tithi and Nakshatra generally considered favourable for the specific ceremony, and you schedule the actual ceremony time outside the Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam windows shown. This gives you the same raw data a priest works from, it does not replace a priest's full recommendation, which also weighs finer rules and, for marriage, both partners' charts together.
